Test Stand Firing
August 4, 1998
FIRING THE MICRO-THRUSTER produces, in this early prototype,
0.1 mN of impulse and 100 W of power.
The ballistic pendulum (a) is used to precisely measure
the thrust produced by the Digital Propulsion chip (b).
The thrust plume (c) is visible to the right of the chip.
Interferometric optics (d) to measure the displacement of the pendulum
are visible in bottom right corner of each frame.
This series of images was acquired at 4,500 frames per second.
